Dimitri Bondarchuk Dimitri Bondarchuk, 34, a commercial fisherman and lifelong resident of Greenport, died suddenly of natural causes June 24 at his home. Also called "Danny," he was known since his Army days and all around Greenport as "Clambo." Born Sept. 5, 1964, to Virginia (Schaumburg) and the late Dimitri Bondarchuk, he graduated in 1983 from Greenport High School and went directly into the U.S. Army, serving from 1982 to 1984 as a Special Forces paratrooper. Mr. Bondarchuk also worked as a cook for various local restaurants, said his mother. "He loved the water and was happiest on the water. He was a very compassionate man and extremely well-loved around here and by a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles and his extended family," she said. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Bibey. The Rev. Richard Mowery conducted funeral services Monday, June 28, at Burton Potter Post, American Legion Hall, Greenport. Arrangements were made by S.B. Horton Funeral Home, Greenport. Interment will be at sea. Memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
